Climate capacity-building for Financial Institutions in North America

Climate capacity-building for Financial Institutions in North America

We worked with financial regulators to design reporting requirements and conducted a sensitization program with the financial sector on risk identification, assessment, and reporting

Client context

  • Clients included financial supervisors and financial institutions from the insurance and banking sectors
  • Interested in exploring transition planning, disclosure practices, and target-setting

Project overview

  • The initial phase of the project focused on evaluating short-term, medium-term, and long-term transition and physical risks and opportunities
  • The next phase explored the different global practices that financial actors are following around strategic planning, targets, and risk management
  • The final phase provided guidance and resources both to the supervisors and to the financial sector on how to continue advancing their climate practices

Results achieved

  • Produced a review of the potential sectoral climate risks and opportunities as well as recommending specific actions for addressing them
  • Drafted a roadmap report on how to integrate transition planning, net-zero target-setting, and climate stress tests into the financial sector
